Perry's French Cuirassiers - first half regiment finished!

The first batch of eight figures are done.  I tried to do small details like the grenade device on the saddlecloth and the regt. number on the portmanteau with varying success.  My eyes just aren't up to such fine detail and even with magnification and lighting its still a struggle.  Nonetheless its done.

I don't anticipate such a drawn out process with the second batch or the Carabiniers - now I think I have worked out how the use the Army Painter tone to best advantage.

Unfortunately uni work looms with the start of term next month so it may be a while before my next post.  Hope you all enjoy the photos of my first batch of the Perry's plastic 28mm French Cuirassiers.
Cheers,

  1. Fantastic! You can't beat French cavalry. The detailing is excellent and I really like the way you've done the grey.

    Best wishes

  2. Well done - these figures were the first cavalry I attempted to paint in 28mm and I've become a big fan of them.

I like how you've painted and detailed the horses and saddles. I may have to go back and touch up some of mine after seeing how well yours have turned out.

Which ruleset are you basing them for?

  3. Hi
Not my scale (I am 1/72) but they look terrific!

  4. They look great. Nice work on the grenades on the saddle cloth. I have to wonder why the Perrys didn't sculpt that on? I think even if you wanted to put regimental numbers there, you could scrape it off. Anyway, marvelous looking unit. Dean

  5. Thanks guys, much appreciated. Miles - I originally did the basing for WRG but have long since stopped playing that rule set. The best thing about it is the basing sizes which match in with many different rules. It was either that or base them individually. The cav bases are 60 x 40mm for three (usually a command stand) 40 x 40 for a double and 20 x 40 for singles.
Dean - carving the number into the plastic - what a great idea! Easier than painting it I bet. I might try that with the next batch.

I actually meant if the Perrys had sculpted the grenades as raised. And if someone wanted the regimental numbers on instead - the grenades could be scalped off. But, what your idea is good too - you'd have the outline to work with - still a lot of work though. Sincerely, Dean

  7. Sorry Dean - but your comment has given me the idea of engraving the regt number as a guide for the paint - my eyes and shaking hand finding it a bit of a task to do freehand. Fortunately I have a number of ex-dental instruments that should provide a suitable engraving point.

Your actual point is well made too - raised grenade emblems would have saved a lot of weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth trying to paint the damn things!

  8. Like these figurs a lot! The convincing posing on these minis really comes out when painted.
