Its interesting to note that when th...Thanks chaps! Its interesting to note that when the French tried massed cavalry charges later at Gravolette and Sedan, they were slaughtered by rifle fire from steady infantry. Even the Prussian needle gun (max range 700 mtrs) was sufficient. Cavalry in their traditional role were really made redundant by modern weaponry in the FPW. Only times they succeeded was when they surprised their opponents like at Mars-La-Tour, but they still paid a fearsome price - the Prussians were lucky to have succeeded. The same applies when you wargame them - only cav vs cav otherwise they get gunned down nearly every time!
